SMOL Art is an organization in Kisii, on the western side of Kenya. It is an area unique in its abundance in Kisii soapstone and is home to many artisans who make their living carving and sculpting it.

Soapstone is a natural quarried stone and is a metamorphic rock called steatite. It is largely composed of the mineral talc and is thus rich in magnesium. It is produced by dynamothermal metamorphismand metasomatism, which occurs in the zones where tectonic plates are subducted, changing rocks by heat and pressure, with influx of fluids, but without melting. It has been a medium for carving for thousands of years.
